View DetailsThe Monkey River and Manatee Experience
The most popular tour out of Placencia takes adventurers on 40-minute boat ride through the mangroves and Caribbean Sea to the mouth of Monkey River at Monkey River Village. The gentle ride showcases the diverse wildlife of Belize in all their glory including birds, iguanas, snakes, crocodiles and the stars of the tour - howler monkeys. Swimming is safe and refreshing during sojourns down the river and a native lunch really caps off the day. Manatees abound in the lagoon and sightings are a daily occurrence.
Most of our Belizean guides were born and raised in the Monkey River Village - a small Creole village of about 200 people that lies on the Southern banks.
You're headed into the jungle and will be on the water - a perfect combination for mosquitoes and no-see-ums. Bring your sense of adventure, bug spray, swim suite and a camera... you won't want to miss the colors, sights, and sounds of the jungle!

The first session is a ‘confined water’ practice (usually off the beach of an island), where you’ll get to grips with breathing through your regulator and swimming efficiently in your gear.
The second dive is an ‘open water dive’, which means your Captain Jaks PADI professional can take you to an easy, shallow dive site in the open ocean – this is what it’s all about! You learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional. If you make an open water dive, you'll practice a few more skills in shallow water to prepare for your adventure. Get ready to:
